“Tier 2 language” is an important part of enabling pupils to access their work in every subject, and in basic terms, this means ensuring pupils have the vocabulary to understand what they are being asked to do and to respond in an “academic” way. This might involve words like “analyse” and “evaluate”.

As a result, this term’s registration activities are focusing on three of these Tier 2 words each week, and ask pupils to consider the definition, try to use them in a sentence and then aim to use them during the week.

Parents can help by discussing them with your child and acknowledging and giving praise when your child uses them, so please try to make two minutes to have a glance at these words each week.
