      Unit 1: Reading and writing (40%)

      Reading paper: 2 1/2 hours

      100 marks.

      Section A - Reading

      Responding to non literacy reading text.

      Section B - Written

      Either: Factual or persuasive piece.

      Or     : Creative piece (prose).

      Section C -Using the language.

      Recognising and correcting grammar mistakes.

       

      Unit 2 - Oral tasks (30%)

      Coursework 80 marks

      Section A

      Expressing opinions - Group work.

      Section B

      Presentation of information - individual task.

       

      Unit 3 - Written tasks (Reading and writing).

      (30%) coursework 120 marks.

      Task 1 Reading

      Drama/short story/short stories.

      To display an understanding of the text through creative writing.

      Task 2 Written

      Expressing opinions based on information.

        It is expected that candidates following the full course should complete Units 1,2,3 and 4.

         

        Unit 1 - Written paper (25%) (140marks) Higher and foundation tier.

        Four questions - Two written (10%)

                             - Two Reading (15%)

         

        Unit 2 - Coursework (25%) (100 marks)

        Oral 20%

        Task 1 - Individual presentation (10%)

        Task 2 - Role-play situation (10%) Pair/group work.

        Written - (5%)

        Written work based on the role-play situations.

         

        Unit 3 - Oral examination: 10 minutes (25%) (50 marks)

        Higher and foundation Tier.

        Oral (20%)

        Oral examination pair/group work.

        Reading (5%)

        Discuss the reading texts as a stimulus to the oral examination.

         

        Unit 4 - Written paper: 1 hour (25%) (140marks)

        Higher and foundation tier.

        Four questions  two written (15%)
